The pages afforded glimpses into my soul where I'd hidden it, behind masks of paper and ink. ~Rachel L. Schade
Keeping a journal, whether it is a gratitude journal, dream journal, or one of your daily thoughts or activities, has a tremendous impact on your life. It puts whatever issue we focus on in the spotlight and keeps us accountable to ourselves. The journal may reveal patterns or habits that no longer serve us and/or things that need attention or help us to stay on track when trying to make change. The journal may show us a truth that we have been hiding from or something that we have overlooked in our lives Journaling is an extremely powerful tool. It does take time and effort but your mental well-being is worth the effort, especially when trying to change or reorganize life.
We experience life through our thoughts and emotions. When we are trying to make changes if we focus only on the negative, we will experience only negative emotions. If we focus on the positive (progress), then we will experience positive emotions. Journaling will help you to regurgitate all of these emotions and let you glimpse into your thought patters and change those accordingly. We need to cherish our existence by feeling love, joy, peace, and enlightenment.
We can look back at the pages and reminisce through our memories. We may forget where we started and need a little boost to see all of the progress that we have made. We often forget the context in which all the vivid moments, conversations, feelings, and experiences happened. Writing our experiences down as they happen allows you to look back, remember all of these precious moments from your life, and remind you where you’ve been and who you are.
